The Ecomuseu in Macapá, capital of Amapá state, is a project that occupies an are of 850 m2 dedicated to ecosystems, culture, art from the amazon region, including a collection from IEPA – Instate of Scientific and Technological Researches of the State of Amapá. Composing a partnership with Photo and Superlimão, responsible for the architectural project, Laika developed the wayfinding design project of Ecomuseu.
Flora and Fauna: natural premise
The amazon biome reveals us leaves such as of Fittonia argyroneura, with its slots, that inspired the basic shape and symmetry to compose the weft of the structured mosaic of the support totems of the location directories. The same weft multiplied reveals other graphic representations, such as the frontal face of an amphibian.
Natural lines
The amazon biome imposed the rhythm of the strokes to Ecomuseu’s pictograms drawing. From the shapes of amazon’s vegetation, we have the starting point for the iconography’s drawing and its particular characteristic. Using a flat brush, we explored the movement and rotation of the bristles to emulate elongated leaves: the strokes flowed in various thickness, suggesting the gesture and the human presence, not as an invader, but as a natural member of the ecosystem. The fluidity of the lines was a fundamental resource to find the personality of the iconography’s volume.
Study material
For the museum experience, a series of explanatory and educative blades was developed, distributed through the exhibition area, with the possibility of being collected and stored in a folder support. With that, students can take with themselves little pieces of the museum and utilize the visited content as consultation for their studies.
